About Ramona Douglas:

Ramona Douglas is an eclectic musician, native of Philadelphia, PA where she was born and raised by her mother and musician father. Surrounded by music constantly, she began her music training as a violinist at age 7. She graduated from Trinity Washington Univ. with a B.A. in Fine Arts & Music in 2009. She received her M.M. in Flute Performance & Pedagogy from Texas State Univ. under the tutelage of Dr. Adah T. Jones in May 2019. She has performed on flute and piccolo with the Main Line Symphony Orchestra, Gateways Music Festival Symphony Orchestra, Minnesota Ballet, Symphony of the Hills, Light Opera of New Jersey, The Black Radio Orchestra (with Robert Glasper) and is the Flutist and Development Coordinator for the dynamic chamber ensemble Adelante Winds. Ramona has also performed extensively for musical theater productions and in jazz and latin ensembles, doubling on clarinet and saxophone. In her work as an arts administrator, she joined the administrative team of Youth Orchestras of San Antonio (YOSA) as Office Coordinator in 2019. She has also recently joined the executive board of Austin Flute Society as Media Secretary. One of her most impactful administrative works is with the Umoja Flute Institute, where she is one of 15 founding board members comprised of flutists of African Descent, dedicated to providing resources and enrichment for flutists of African descent from around the globe. As an educator, she joined the faculty of Northwest Vista College as an Adjunct Professor in Spring 2020. Her latest post includes being a Teaching Artist for the Philadelphia Orchestra, where she teaches flute to young students throughout the city of Philadelphia. She is enjoying her career as a performer, educator and clinician and is continuing to find new ways to move classical music forward with inclusion and diversity.
