La Luz Del Son with Terell Stafford: Tribute to Aldalberto Alvarez

Location: St. Luke and the Epiphany

Description: Experience the unforgettable music of the legendary Cuban pianist and vocalist, Adalberto Alvarez in this tribute concert in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. Whether you’re a dedicated fan of Cuban music or a newcomer eager to explore new horizons, this will be an evening of musical discovery, heartfelt celebration, and a cross-cultural musical experience you won’t want to miss. La Luz Del Son, a hybrid band of musicians from Cuba and America, present their arrangements of Aldalberto’s celebrated works.

Weather permitting, we’ll be outside on the street. Snacks and beverages to spice up the evening will be available. Dancing encouraged!

 

Artcinia and the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society present Kuwento Mizik

Location: Church of St. William
Date: Dec 3rd at 2pm

Description: 2022 Musical Fund Society Award winner Jean Bernard Cerin and pianist Veena Kulkarni-Rankin fuse classical and world music with storytelling in a transformative concert experience as the duo Kuwento Mizik. Informed by the artists’ Indian, Filipino, American and Haitian heritage, the duo takes listeners around the world through music programs that span European and American art songs, Brazilian and Haitian folk music to Indian and Persian love songs.

In Krik! Krak! Songs and Stories from Haiti, listeners will take a deep dive into the rarely explored world of Haitian art songs, solo classical piano repertoire, arrangements of traditional folk songs for the concert stage and Kuwento Mizik’s original adaptation of the Haitian folktale, Tezen.

 

The Philadelphia Organ Festival: Jazz Organ Trio The Mini Q’s

Location: St. Luke’s Episcopal Church Germantown
Date: Feb 18th at 2pm

Description: Experience the soulful fusion of jazz and the majestic resonance of the organ at the Philadelphia Organ Festival. This event is a collaboration between Artcinia and Partners for Sacred Places.

This sizzler concert will feature the renowned Philly organ jazz trio, The Mini Q’s, led by keyboardist Luke Carlos O’Reilly and guitarist Ben O’Neill. Since their inception in 2004, The Mini Q’s have become a fixture in the Philadelphia jazz scene, drawing inspiration from jazz legends like Jimmy Smith and Don Patterson, as well as infusing hip hop and soul influences. This is a family friendly event!

 

Ruth Naomi Floyd’s Messages of Hope Through Sacred Jazz

Location: First Presbyterian Church in Germantown
Date: Feb 25th at 2pm

Description: Join Award-winning vocalist, composer, and flautist, Ruth Naomi Floyd as she performs black-history based and sacred jazz in celebration of Black History Month. Ruth has been at the forefront of creating a discography of vocal jazz settings that express theology, history, and justice. Join us when Ruth and her quartet share spiritually driven messages of hope, faith, redemption, and love, all carried in a distinctive sound and setting of progressive sacred jazz.

 

Irish Music with Poor Man’s Gambit
